All my life I had being helping others, so Burn Survivors Online just allowed me to do what I enjoyed and was good it. While I never thought of myself as a burn survivor, I did understand what someone goes through, and just considered myself as someone who had been burned. To me it was an inconvenience with a permanent reminder, yet I seemed to be able to help others get through the weeks with simple words and an understanding of what they went through, and knowing that things do get better with time. While I wasabout my burn scars it took me many years before I could walk in public in shorts, which bothered me because I consider my scars as insignificant, so it was something that I worked on and slowly I was wearing shorts in public and dealing with the stares and occasional question. The first few times were are as I would lock up, change the subject, or just walk away. But after time I realized that it was my problem and not anyone else’s. So I got past it and noticed that I didn’t have a problem with it anymore, and most people really didn’t notice anyway (even though I thought everyone noticed). It was then that I realized that I may not have been burned as bad as most people, but I did have many things to offer, and Burn Survivors Online (BSO) was one of them. Through the years I met many people, and helped countless people, some of them burn survivors, and some families and/or friends. BSO had grown and evolved over the years and was then the top ranked website for burn injuries and the first to offer online peer support. |
